This week’s ‘Deal’ machine is the Quaser MF500 US, a simultaneous 5 axis machining centre which extends the opportunities for high precision single process machining at a cost well within the scope of the smaller to medium sub-contractor.

And, as ETG’s Technical Director Richard Hughes explains, the Quaser MF Series machines are acknowledged as one of the best specified, high-value 5-axis machines on the market.

“They feature an impressive build specification that makes them suited for a range of end users from high precision prototyping and tool room work to volume production environments where sustained precision and repeatability are all important,” he explains.

“The machines are also capable of becoming an integral part of an FMC set up where lights out machining is required. Also available as a highly versatile 4+1 machining centre (the MF500 C) this latest ‘US’ version has a range of features based on the powerful and feature packed Siemens 840D controller.”

The X/Y/Z axis rapids are 36/36/24 m/minute respectively with the C axis offering 360º continuous travel.

While offering an impressive ‘standard’ specification, the MF500 U has many upgradeable options including the random selection ATC (from 30 to 48 or 60), a 12,000rpm spindle upgradeable to 15,000rpm, optional linear scales and a laser tool measuring and monitoring system.  If necessary, the 60 tool ATC can be multiplied, doubling up to 120 tools.

The active work envelope is 550mm in the X axis, 800mm in the Y and 610mm in the Z with the trunnion faceplate on the rotary table facilitating a movement of +30 to -120º.  Through coolant – of 20 bar – is standard as is the spindle oil chiller.

Importantly, for the smaller workshop, the 500 U has a very compact footprint of just 2.6 x 3.2M.
